What We Treat
Bipolar Disorder Therapy
Living with bipolar disorder means more than managing episodes. Therapy can help with the rest of life: relationships, routines, work, and how you see yourself.

01
Understanding Bipolar Disorder
Bipolar disorder involves shifts in mood, energy, and activity, ranging from periods of depression to periods of elevated or irritable mood known as mania or hypomania. Between episodes, many people feel stable, but the unpredictability can affect sleep, work, relationships, and self-confidence.
02
How Therapy Fits Into Care
Bipolar disorder is usually treated with a combination of medication from a medical prescriber and therapy. Guiding Hope provides the therapy side of that care. Our clinicians do not prescribe medication, and we encourage clients with bipolar disorder to stay connected with a psychiatrist or physician.
In therapy you can learn to recognize early warning signs, build steady routines around sleep and stress, work through the grief and frustration that can come with a diagnosis, and strengthen relationships affected by past episodes.
03
Is Outpatient Therapy the Right Level of Care?
Online outpatient therapy works best when someone is stable enough for weekly or biweekly sessions. If you are in an acute manic or depressive episode, need hospital-level care, or need intensive crisis management, a higher level of care is the right first step. Your consultation is a good place to talk this through honestly.
Guiding Hope provides scheduled outpatient therapy and is not a crisis service. If you are in immediate danger, call 911. If you are in crisis or thinking about suicide, call or text 988 to reach the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline at any hour.
