Who We Help

Therapy for BIPOC Adults

Your culture, your family, and your experiences of race are not side notes in therapy. They are part of your story, and they belong in the room.

01

Why Cultural Fit Matters

For many Black, Indigenous, and people of color, finding a therapist can feel risky. You may worry about having to explain your culture, having your experiences of racism minimized, or being misunderstood by someone who has never had to think about it.

Research consistently shows that the relationship between client and therapist is one of the strongest predictors of how helpful therapy is. Feeling understood is not a luxury. It is part of the treatment.

02

How Guiding Hope Approaches It

Guiding Hope is being intentionally built as a diverse team with different backgrounds, identities, specialties, and lived experiences, so that people can find a therapist who truly fits their needs. BIPOC adults are one of the populations the practice serves.

Mallori Thompson focuses on high-achieving African American women. Odette Gonzalez has spent her career advocating for and empowering survivors of abuse, including through community agencies in San Antonio. Our clinicians welcome conversations about race, culture, family expectations, and identity.

03

What You Can Work On

Anxiety, depression, trauma, burnout, relationships, parenting, and life transitions, along with the specific stress of navigating bias at work, in school, or in health care.

The first step is a free consultation. It is a short conversation where you can say what is going on, ask how online sessions work, and hear which clinician may be the best fit. There is no obligation, and you do not need to have the right words ready.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Is therapy for BIPOC adults available online anywhere in Texas?

Yes. Every session at Guiding Hope is held by secure video, and all of our clinicians are licensed in Texas, so you can meet from anywhere in the state.

Do you take insurance?

Guiding Hope is in network with Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, and UnitedHealthcare. Coverage varies by plan, and superbills are available for out-of-network reimbursement.

What happens in the free consultation?

You share a little about what is bringing you in, ask any practical questions, and talk through which clinician may fit. It is a conversation, not a commitment.

What if I am in crisis right now?

Please call 911 if you are in immediate danger, or call or text 988 for the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. Guiding Hope offers scheduled outpatient therapy and is not an emergency service.

You Can Begin With a Conversation

A free consultation can help you ask questions, share what you are looking for, and consider whether one of our clinicians feels like a fit.
