01

The Weight of Always Being Strong

Many Black women grow up with the expectation that they will hold it together for everyone: family, work, church, community. That strength is real, and it is also heavy. It can show up as high-functioning anxiety, quiet depression, exhaustion, and a sense that there is nowhere safe to set it down.

Add workplace pressure, experiences of racism and bias, and the demands of motherhood, and it makes sense that so many women are running on empty while looking fine.

02

Care That Understands Context

Mallori Thompson is especially passionate about supporting high-achieving African American women who silently carry the weight of high-functioning anxiety, depression, and the pressure to always appear strong. She also supports women through infertility, pregnancy, and postpartum, and brings lived experience as a mother of two.

The Guiding Hope journal has written about why Black mothers deserve more than strength, and the practice is intentionally building a diverse team so people can find a therapist who truly fits.

03

What Therapy Can Look Like

Therapy is a space to be fully yourself without code-switching or explaining. Work may include managing anxiety and overthinking, making room for rest without guilt, processing experiences of discrimination or trauma, and redefining strength on your own terms.

The first step is a free consultation. It is a short conversation where you can say what is going on, ask how online sessions work, and hear which clinician may be the best fit. There is no obligation, and you do not need to have the right words ready.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Is therapy for Black women available online anywhere in Texas?

Yes. Every session at Guiding Hope is held by secure video, and all of our clinicians are licensed in Texas, so you can meet from anywhere in the state.

Do you take insurance?

Guiding Hope is in network with Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, and UnitedHealthcare. Coverage varies by plan, and superbills are available for out-of-network reimbursement.

What happens in the free consultation?

You share a little about what is bringing you in, ask any practical questions, and talk through which clinician may fit. It is a conversation, not a commitment.

What if I am in crisis right now?

Please call 911 if you are in immediate danger, or call or text 988 for the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. Guiding Hope offers scheduled outpatient therapy and is not an emergency service.

You Can Begin With a Conversation

A free consultation can help you ask questions, share what you are looking for, and consider whether one of our clinicians feels like a fit.
