01

Why Direct ASL Therapy Matters

For Deaf and Hard of Hearing people whose first or preferred language is ASL, therapy through an interpreter can work, but it adds a third person to the most private conversation you have. Nuance, humor, and emotion can get lost in translation, and it can be harder to build trust.

Direct communication with a therapist who signs means you can say exactly what you mean, the way you mean it.

02

Meet Ashley Gutierrez

Ashley Gutierrez, MA, LPC-Associate, is fluent in American Sign Language and is deeply passionate about bridging the gap in mental health services for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community. This is a central part of her practice, not an added accommodation.

Ashley works with teens 13 and older, young adults, adults, and couples. She specializes in LGBTQIA+ and neurodivergent clients, uses DBT and narrative therapy, and offers daytime, evening, and weekend telehealth. She practices under the supervision of Dr. Bernadette H. Solórzano, PsyD, LPC-S.

03

How Online ASL Sessions Work

Sessions happen by secure video, which suits signed conversation well. You will want a well-lit space and a camera that shows your hands and face. You can meet from anywhere in Texas.

Guiding Hope is in network with Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, and UnitedHealthcare. Coverage varies from plan to plan, so it is worth confirming your benefits before your first session. If you are out of network, the practice can provide a superbill you may be able to submit for reimbursement.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Is therapy in American Sign Language available online anywhere in Texas?

Yes. Every session at Guiding Hope is held by secure video, and all of our clinicians are licensed in Texas, so you can meet from anywhere in the state.

Do you take insurance?

Guiding Hope is in network with Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, and UnitedHealthcare. Coverage varies by plan, and superbills are available for out-of-network reimbursement.

What happens in the free consultation?

You share a little about what is bringing you in, ask any practical questions, and talk through which clinician may fit. It is a conversation, not a commitment.

What if I am in crisis right now?

Please call 911 if you are in immediate danger, or call or text 988 for the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. Guiding Hope offers scheduled outpatient therapy and is not an emergency service.

You Can Begin With a Conversation

A free consultation can help you ask questions, share what you are looking for, and consider whether one of our clinicians feels like a fit.
