01

When High Standards Start Costing You

Perfectionism can look like achievement from the outside. On the inside it often feels like fear: of making a mistake, of disappointing someone, of being found out. Overthinking is its companion, the late-night review of what you said, what you should have said, and everything that could go wrong tomorrow.

Anxiety and overthinking is the concern people bring to Guiding Hope most often.

02

Where It Comes From

For many people, perfectionism started as a way to stay safe or earn approval, in a family, a school, a faith community, or a workplace where mistakes felt costly. It made sense then. The work of therapy is noticing where it no longer serves you.

03

How Therapy Helps

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy can help you catch the all-or-nothing thinking behind perfectionism and test it against reality. Mindfulness-based skills help you step out of the loop of rumination. Narrative therapy can help you separate who you are from the story that you are only as good as your last performance.

Ashley Gutierrez specializes in supporting high-achieving women navigating perfectionism, and Mallori Thompson works with women who silently carry the pressure to always appear strong.

04

A First Step That Does Not Need to Be Perfect

The first step is a free consultation. It is a short conversation where you can say what is going on, ask how online sessions work, and hear which clinician may be the best fit. There is no obligation, and you do not need to have the right words ready.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Is therapy for perfectionism and overthinking available online anywhere in Texas?

Yes. Every session at Guiding Hope is held by secure video, and all of our clinicians are licensed in Texas, so you can meet from anywhere in the state.

Do you take insurance?

Guiding Hope is in network with Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, and UnitedHealthcare. Coverage varies by plan, and superbills are available for out-of-network reimbursement.

What happens in the free consultation?

You share a little about what is bringing you in, ask any practical questions, and talk through which clinician may fit. It is a conversation, not a commitment.

What if I am in crisis right now?

Please call 911 if you are in immediate danger, or call or text 988 for the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. Guiding Hope offers scheduled outpatient therapy and is not an emergency service.

You Can Begin With a Conversation

A free consultation can help you ask questions, share what you are looking for, and consider whether one of our clinicians feels like a fit.
