Who We Help

Therapy for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Community

Mental health care has too often been built without Deaf and Hard of Hearing people in mind. Guiding Hope wants to be a place where you do not have to fight for access.

01

A Real Gap in Care

Deaf and Hard of Hearing people face the same stresses as anyone else, plus some that hearing therapists may not understand: communication barriers at work and school, isolation in hearing families, fatigue from constant lipreading or advocating for access, and being misunderstood by health care systems.

Very few therapists in Texas can offer therapy directly in American Sign Language, which means many people either go without care or work through an interpreter.

02

How Guiding Hope Can Help

Ashley Gutierrez is fluent in ASL and works with the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community as a central part of her practice. She is also committed to reducing barriers to mental health care for all people regardless of socioeconomic status.

Whether you sign, use spoken English, or both, you can talk with Ashley about how you communicate best. Online sessions mean you can meet from home anywhere in Texas.

03

What You Can Work On

Anxiety, depression, identity, relationships, family communication, LGBTQIA+ identity, neurodivergence, and life transitions. Ashley works with teens 13 and older, young adults, adults, and couples, with daytime, evening, and weekend availability.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Is therapy for Deaf and Hard of Hearing clients available online anywhere in Texas?

Yes. Every session at Guiding Hope is held by secure video, and all of our clinicians are licensed in Texas, so you can meet from anywhere in the state.

Do you take insurance?

Guiding Hope is in network with Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, and UnitedHealthcare. Coverage varies by plan, and superbills are available for out-of-network reimbursement.

What happens in the free consultation?

You share a little about what is bringing you in, ask any practical questions, and talk through which clinician may fit. It is a conversation, not a commitment.

What if I am in crisis right now?

Please call 911 if you are in immediate danger, or call or text 988 for the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. Guiding Hope offers scheduled outpatient therapy and is not an emergency service.

You Can Begin With a Conversation

A free consultation can help you ask questions, share what you are looking for, and consider whether one of our clinicians feels like a fit.
