01

What Provisionally Licensed Means

In Texas, a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate, or LPC-Associate, has completed a master's degree in counseling, passed the licensing exam, and been licensed by the state to practice under the supervision of a board-approved supervisor. They are completing the supervised clinical hours required for full licensure.

Associates are often recently trained in current, evidence-based approaches, and they receive ongoing consultation on their work.

02

Our Provisionally Licensed Clinicians

Mallori Thompson practices under the supervision of Dr. Desiree L. Stephens, LPC-S. Janell Goler practices under the supervision of Dr. Gerald Pennie, PhD, LPC-S. Ashley Gutierrez practices under the supervision of Dr. Bernadette H. Solórzano, PsyD, LPC-S.

Between them they focus on perinatal mental health, high-functioning anxiety, stress, depression, trauma, LGBTQIA+ and neurodivergent affirming care, and therapy in American Sign Language.

03

Why the Rate Is Lower

Provisionally licensed clinicians offer a lower-cost option for consistent care. Ask about current self-pay rates during your free consultation.

If you plan to use insurance, ask your plan whether it covers sessions with an associate-level clinician, since coverage rules vary.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a provisionally licensed clinician?

A provisionally licensed clinician is an associate-level therapist who practices under the supervision of an independently licensed supervisor. Each associate’s profile names their supervisor.

Do you take insurance?

Guiding Hope is in network with Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, and UnitedHealthcare. Coverage varies by plan, and superbills are available for out-of-network reimbursement.

What happens in the free consultation?

You share a little about what is bringing you in, ask any practical questions, and talk through which clinician may fit. It is a conversation, not a commitment.

What if I am in crisis right now?

Please call 911 if you are in immediate danger, or call or text 988 for the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. Guiding Hope offers scheduled outpatient therapy and is not an emergency service.

You Can Begin With a Conversation

A free consultation can help you ask questions, share what you are looking for, and consider whether one of our clinicians feels like a fit.
