I Tried Therapy Before and It Did Not Help
This is one of the most common reasons people hesitate to try again, and it is worth taking seriously rather than brushing aside.

01
Why Therapy Sometimes Does Not Work
The fit was wrong. The approach did not suit what you needed. The timing was hard. The therapist did not have experience with your specific concern. Or you were not able to say what was really going on yet. None of those mean you are beyond help.
02
What to Do Differently
Tell a new therapist what did not work last time. It is useful information, not a criticism. Ask how their approach is different. Look for someone who names your specific concern, whether that is perinatal mental health, trauma, OCD, or high-functioning anxiety, rather than a generalist.
Ask about goals early, so you both know what progress should look like.

How Guiding Hope Handles Fit
Your free consultation is designed to match you with the clinician whose focus and style suit you. Our clinicians use a range of approaches, including CBT, mindfulness-based work, Interpersonal Therapy, DBT, and narrative therapy, and adapt to the person in front of them.
If it does not feel right after a few sessions, say so. Changing clinicians within the practice is a normal part of finding the right match.
Common Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
What if I tried therapy before and it did not help?
An earlier experience that did not help does not mean therapy cannot be useful now. The fit, approach, or timing may have been wrong; you can talk about what did not work in a free consultation.
Do you take insurance?
Guiding Hope is in network with Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, and UnitedHealthcare. Coverage varies by plan, and superbills are available for out-of-network reimbursement.
What happens in the free consultation?
You share a little about what is bringing you in, ask any practical questions, and talk through which clinician may fit. It is a conversation, not a commitment.
What if I am in crisis right now?
Please call 911 if you are in immediate danger, or call or text 988 for the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. Guiding Hope offers scheduled outpatient therapy and is not an emergency service.
You Can Begin With a Conversation
A free consultation can help you ask questions, share what you are looking for, and consider whether one of our clinicians feels like a fit.
