01

Using UnitedHealthcare for Therapy

Being in network means Guiding Hope has an agreement with UnitedHealthcare, which usually means lower out-of-pocket costs for you than seeing an out-of-network therapist. What you actually pay depends on your specific plan: your deductible, copay or coinsurance, and whether your plan covers telehealth the same way as in-person care.

Some UnitedHealthcare plans manage mental health benefits through a separate behavioral health administrator, so the phone number for mental health may be different from the one for medical care.

02

How to Check Your Benefits

Call the member services or behavioral health number on the back of your UnitedHealthcare card and ask: Is outpatient mental health therapy covered? Is telehealth covered? What is my copay or coinsurance? Have I met my deductible? Is prior authorization required?

Write down the name of the person you spoke with and the date. It makes any later question much easier to sort out.

03

What Your Plan May Cover

Plans commonly cover a 50-minute intake and ongoing 50-minute therapy sessions. Guiding Hope works with teens and adults on anxiety, depression, trauma, perinatal mental health, grief, life transitions, stress and burnout, and more, all by secure video.

If you are not sure whether your plan is one we accept, bring your card details to your free consultation and we can talk it through.

04

If Your Plan Does Not Cover It

If you are out of network or would rather not use insurance, you can pay directly, and the practice can provide a superbill you may be able to submit for out-of-network reimbursement.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you accept UnitedHealthcare?

Yes. Guiding Hope is in network with UnitedHealthcare. Your cost depends on your specific plan, so confirm your behavioral health benefits with UnitedHealthcare.

What happens in the free consultation?

You share a little about what is bringing you in, ask any practical questions, and talk through which clinician may fit. It is a conversation, not a commitment.

What if I am in crisis right now?

Please call 911 if you are in immediate danger, or call or text 988 for the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. Guiding Hope offers scheduled outpatient therapy and is not an emergency service.

You Can Begin With a Conversation

A free consultation can help you ask questions, share what you are looking for, and consider whether one of our clinicians feels like a fit.
